平和の創り手である日本の皆さんへ

私は日本の方々を愛し、日本の文化や平和国家としての名誉、人々の善良さに深く感銘を受けております。また、皆さんが戦争の下で苦しんできた悲惨な出来事のために、再び軍事的脅迫や帝国主義を構築する世界に入ることがないように祈りつつ、私はこの手紙を書いております。
平和の構造を打ち立てることは、熟練された外交交渉を行い、信頼を構築し、国家間で相互に理解し合う営みを通してのみ可能になります。日本国憲法九条を弱体化する動きは、あなたがたの文明の破滅であり、国際紛争を解決する妥当な手段として、戦争を神聖化することです。
正義に基づいて平和を求める親愛なる皆さん、私は自分自身の国・アメリカとあなた方の国・日本に、できるだけ強くこの差し迫った聞きへの注意を喚起したいと願っています。どうか安倍首相への私の最初の手紙を、平和を創る努力の一助としてお使いください。

I love the Japanese people. I am impressed with their culture, honor and
goodness. Also because of the terrible things they have suffered under
war, I pray and am writing so that they will not once again enter into
realm of military intimidation and empire building.
To build the structures of peace is only possible through the disciplined
use of negotiation and the building of confidence and mutual understanding
between nations.
Movement toward the descending of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution is the undoing of your civilization and the blessing of war as a legitimate means for settling international disputes. As strongly as I can I want to alert my own country and yours, dear seekers of peace with justice, of this impending peril.
Please use my first letter to the Prime Minister to aid this effort!
